Spotlight on media plurality and fake news with the European Federation of Journalists

Renate SCHRÖDER, Director of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), provides valuable expertise on current challenges such as combatting fake news, propaganda, and spying on journalists. Her informed responses offer essential insight into ensuring a diverse and transparent media landscape in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. As a reminder, a crucial step was taken on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

After being approved by the Parliament, the European Council also adopted the draft regulation on media independence and freedom, known as the “European Media Freedom Act.” Upon adoption by the European Council and publication in the Official Journal, this regulation will come into effect in each Member State of the European Union.

Just a day after the new act was given the green light, we caught up with Renate SCHRÖDER at a journalism conference in Tours, the “Assises Internationales du Journalisme de Tours”.
